How semester GPA works
A semester GPA is a weighted average, not a simple one: a 4-credit B+ moves your average more than a 1-credit A. That is why the formula multiplies grade points by credits before dividing — see the step-by-step in how to calculate GPA.

Semester GPA questions
What is a semester GPA?
Your grade point average for a single term: the credit-weighted average of that semester's (or quarter's) grades only, ignoring every other term.
How is semester GPA calculated?
For each course, multiply the grade points (A = 4.0, B+ = 3.3, and so on) by the credits, sum the products, and divide by the semester's total credits.
Do non-credit or pass/fail courses count?
Usually not. Pass/fail and audit courses are normally excluded from GPA at most institutions, though a fail under a pass/fail scheme can count at some schools — check your catalogue.
Can I use this for a quarter or trimester?
Yes. The maths is identical for any single term: just enter that term's courses and credits.
