GPA Calculator — plan the grade, don't just total it

Add your courses and watch your semester GPA update live. Then go further than a plain total: fold in your record so far for a cumulative GPA, or jump to the planners and find out exactly what you need on the final — or next semester — to hit your target.

Worked example

The starter rows above are a real calculation you can check by hand. Grade points come from the 4.0 scale chart: multiply each course's points by its credits, add them up, divide by total credits.

CourseGradePointsCreditsPoints × credits
Course 1A4.0312.0
Course 2B+3.3413.2
Course 3A-3.7311.1
Total1036.3

GPA = 36.3 ÷ 10 = 3.63. The fourth starter row (a B at 3 credits) is there so you can see how one more course moves the number — delete it and the calculator returns to 3.63. The full method, including weighted high-school GPA, is in how to calculate GPA.

Totals are history. Plans are useful.

Most GPA calculators stop at the average. The questions students actually lose sleep over come next: What do I need on the final to keep my A? and Can I still reach a 3.5 by graduation? EasyGPA's two planners answer those directly, with the maths shown and an honest verdict when a target is mathematically out of reach this term — along with the best outcome still on the table.

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate my GPA?

Convert each letter grade to grade points on the 4.0 scale (A = 4.0, B = 3.0, and so on), multiply each by the course's credits, add those products together, and divide by the total credits. Three A-credits, four B+ credits and three A- credits give (12 + 13.2 + 11.1) / 10 = 3.63.

What grade scale does EasyGPA use?

The standard US 4.0 scale: A and A+ are 4.0, A- is 3.7, B+ is 3.3, B is 3.0, B- is 2.7, C+ is 2.3, C is 2.0, C- is 1.7, D+ is 1.3, D is 1.0 and F is 0.0. Some schools differ slightly, so check your institution's official scale for decisions that matter.

What is the difference between semester GPA and cumulative GPA?

Semester GPA covers one term only. Cumulative GPA blends every term you have completed, weighted by credits. EasyGPA shows both: enter this term's courses, then add your previous GPA and credits to see the new cumulative figure.

How do I work out what I need on my final?

Use the Final Grade Calculator. Enter your current grade, how much of the course is already graded, the final's weight and your target. It solves for the exam score you need — and tells you honestly if the target is out of reach, plus the best grade still possible.

What GPA do I need next semester to reach my target?

Use the Target GPA Calculator. With your current cumulative GPA, credits completed, credits planned and a target, it computes the exact term GPA required and whether a 4.0 ceiling makes it possible this term.

Is my grade data stored or uploaded?

No. Every calculation runs locally in your browser. There is no account, no upload and no storage — close the tab and the numbers are gone.

Does a failed course count in GPA?

At most schools, yes: an F contributes 0.0 points but its credits still count in the denominator, which is why one F can pull a GPA down hard. Retake policies vary — some schools replace the grade, others average both attempts.
